Web Crush of the Week: RA 763′s Blog
Posted by: Rebecca Vnuk

Librarian Becky Spratford not only writes books, blogs non-stop, and is a reader’s advisor extraordinaire,  (and yes, she is a personal friend of ours, but we’d be impressed with her even if she wasn’t!) she also teaches an RA course at Dominican University with Joyce Sariks (a familiar face to Booklist readers!)

One of the assignments is that the students must contribute to the class blog. Students are given free range to read any 5 books that interest them and post reviews on the RA 763 Blog. They must  use the language of appeal in their annotations, provide 3 fiction readalikes and 3 nonfiction readalikes with a comment for each as to why the title fits as a similar read, and are encouraged to give at least one “outside the box” suggestion.

The blog has been up for over 3 years now, so there are hundreds of annotations and readalikes.  Check it out.

  1. Becky Says:

Thanks guys. I did want to note that the blog is the work of the students when I teach, Joyce Saricks teaches, or we both teach together.

  2. Rebecca Vnuk Says:

Thanks Becky, and sorry for the oversight, Joyce! I’ve updated the post to reflect that.

  3. hapax Says:

Is there a link to the blog being discussed?

  4. Rebecca Vnuk Says:

Eep! Several of the links were not correct/not showing up. It’s fixed now – the link to the RA 763 blog is: Sorry about that!!

  5. laura Says:

I would just like to mention that I took 763 at Dominican while it was being taught by the also wonderful Roberta Johnson and it is hands-down probably the course I use most in my day-to-day job. This is great!

  6. Rebecca Vnuk Says:

Ah yes, Roberta is a dear friend of ours as well! I took the course at DU (a loooong time ago) when it was taught by Dr. Bill Crowley, and it was invaluable to me in my career as an RA librarian.
