Dusty Book: To Be Someone by Louise Voss
Posted by: Rebecca Vnuk

Here’s a book I recommend time and time again, because I really loved it and I don’t know that anyone else was ever aware of it.  As far as I can tell, British author Voss hasn’t had any of her other titles published in the U.S., unfortunately. She has however had some success putting herself out there in the realm of e-publishing.

vossIn To Be Someone, former British pop star–turned–DJ Helena is disfigured in a freak accident, and decides to do one final radio show before killing herself. Sudden and surprising success as a member of the group Blue Idea wasn’t enough to save her from the grief that overwhelmed her when her best friend died of leukemia. The novel is peppered with 80s (mostly British) pop tunes that form an emotional soundtrack to her life, as she journeys through her memory and relives her best and worst moments. Touching, absorbing, and a must-read for any fan of the 1980s.
